raspbmc - Internet Access [solved]
Hiyas,

I have search over google and the forums but nothing seems to have solved my issue.
I swapped Ethernet Cables and checked to see if SD card is compatible (it is)
I have tried different power connectors. I have tried unplugging USB inputs.
I was unable to install the auto-update version so I downloaded the image file to get RaspBMC to run.

Network Information
Link : Connected
MAC address : Assigned
IP Address : 192.168.1.74
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Gateway : 192.168.1.1
Primary DNS : 8.8.8.8
Internet: Not connected. Please check your network configuration.

I can see my PI in my routers device list.
When I try to ping 192.168.1.74 I get Host is unreachable.

Does anyone have any advice on how I could get this resolved?
Cheers,
Greg

Is your gateway address correct? Normally they're in the same range as IP addresses e.g 192.168

RE: raspbmc - Internet Access
Have you by any chance fiddled about with the network connection settings on the pi?

You seem to have google's DNS address. If you are trying to set a static IP or use google's DNS it would be better to set them at the router and then let the pi be allocated them.

RE: raspbmc - Internet Access
I read in some other post to set DNS to googles open DNS Server 8.8.8.8
I set the router to do the assigning and re-setup the image on the SD Card
Assign its IP in rbmc and the lights on the pi sit there flashing.
After about a minute they stay on.

I tried to use raspbmc-win32 installer but received this
Code:
eth01 link up, 100mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x45E1
eth01 link down
wait 5 seconds for network interface to configure IP Address

Generating rsa key, generating dsa key
OK

Sorry, I couldnt connect to the update server.

RE: raspbmc - Internet Access
If you set the DNS at router level you don't need to set it at pi level.

I would just remove any manual changes you have made at both router and pi. You can leave DNS to google in the router. Then allow it to automatically get an IP and set up on the pi.

Once it has use the router to manually assign the pi an IP.

RE: raspbmc - Internet Access
So within PI I set it to
- Use DHCP
- Unique DHCP Client Name

and it no longer connects to the network

So I got it working. Turns out my ISP doesnt like people using other DNS IP's other than their own. Cheers for your input guys. Appreciate it.
