Amazon prime and raspberry pi
The video's play great, sound is good, raspbmc runs smooth with quick menu changes.

BUT. The menus within amazon addon are crazy slow to load, even on items in the watch list it takes a literly 1 - 2 minutes to pull up the list of a whole season.

Anyone had sucess in settings or configurations that can speed this up?

Also i am trying to setup an emulator but my linux knowledge maxed at suse 6.3. can anyone point me in the direction of a very basic howto? (system does not matter, i will learn as i go.)

Thanks
Chris

RE: Amazon prime and raspberry pi
I just found and installed this app yesterday and also noticed the menus are very very slow. I couldn't even get far enough into the menus to see a list of stuff to watch. I went through a couple category menus and then it would just sit there thinking. Then if I tried to back out of the menu it would crash the Pi and re-boot. I need to do some more testing to see if there is anyway I can get it to work.

I hope this gets fixed I'd like to actually be able to use this benefit of my Prime membership.

RE: Amazon prime and raspberry pi
I found a setting for number of items per menu, make that as small as possible, also if you place items in your watch list, life is much better.

I found that it plays great...

then i updated my pi and when i try to install bluecop repository the get app menu is blank, i have removed and replaced and cannot get anything.

I hear i am supposed to delete the addon database, but i have no idea where or how to do that. Any ideas?

Thanks
Chris

RE: Amazon prime and raspberry pi
Found the addon database. it was located in
home\pi\.xbmc\userdata\Database (may be hidden)
i deleted it and rebooted, the file was recreated. still did not work though.

tried again. suddenly the list comes up and i can install. Back to normal at the moment!

Thanks

RE: Amazon prime and raspberry pi
Has anyone found a solution for the slowness of Amazon Prime? Once I get to a video, it plays fine, but the menus take FOREVER to load. This is dramatically effecting the family acceptance of the new system. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I bought a real HTPC. All fixed. Seriously though, I think the Pi is just too slow and has too little ram to do whatever function the app is getting up to.

My 2ยข...

Hummm... I'll have to disagree. I don't see why the raspberry pi can play virtually anything I throw at it, stream from many of the available add-ons including Youtube, but then, when it comes to streaming from Amazon Prime all at sudden that would be problematic. Granted there may be the need to further optimize the Amazon Prime add-on, but other than that, I don't think it's because the Raspberry pi can't handle it. If it can handle everything but Amazon, it would be safe to guess that it has plenty power to handle Prime video streams as well, but there may be something in the add-on that needs some refinement as now it's impacting performances... hopefully the developer of the add-on will have time to take care of those issues.

Trouble is Amazon is doing a truly lousy job to market service because instead of releasing an amazon video player to a large amount of electronic devices (mostly linux based) and across Windows (PC/Phone), Android, Linux (including raspbian), OS X, Prime is available to a very limited amount of electronics.
That was the additional reason I dropped prime service, with the main one being the lack of worthwhile content. And because Amazon is so huge they, couldn't care less of knowing why they lost a customer's subscription... that's a really lousy marketing on their part since now that I no longer have a prime membership, I also no longer shop on Amazon.

So I won't go out of my way setting up an HTPC just for Amazon's sub-par service and selection since I can play plenty content on the Raspberry pi without the need to depend on that Amazon "disservice". When and if they will start to get their acts together and truly mean business, then I might consider them again.

For the time being thanks one-ton-and-a-half to the developer of the current add-on Smile

RE: Amazon prime and raspberry pi
I have to agree with you on the negative views about Amazon. They have convincingly proved that they are arrogant and unethical in their practices to the detriment of many (UK) local businesses. They use legal, yet unfair, trading practices that work due to their enormous size and reach. I refuse to buy from them and make sure that my web browsers block any Amazon search results. Bring back HMV, Comet, my local book shop, my local electrical shop and all the other destroyed businesses that used to employ many more people than Amazon do in the UK.

Anyway, rant over...I hope Amazon Prime stays broken, and that no one fixes it and no one uses it. There are plenty more great sources out there!
