Codec license works on Raspbian but not on Raspbmc
Hi all,

I purchased the licenses for both MPEG2 and VC-1, and have been able to get them both working perfectly on raspbian, but have had no such luck on raspbmc. So I know that the codes I have are correct for my serial number.

I have tried both editing the config.txt file and adding the relevant lines, and also through the pvr nightly build I've entered the codec licenses in through Raspbmc Settings.

I have tried typing them in directly, I've also tried copy pasting, but nothing seems to work. I am going to try a different SD card tonight, but I've been using Sandisk ones, which seem to be one of the more compatible cards with the Raspberry Pi.

Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions?

The MPEG-2 license worked fine for me, even on RC-4.

YES!
Re Raspbmc mpg licence.

Please help a Linux newbie
Nightmare trying to enable mpg2 licence from Pi Shop

XBMC has no access to a command prompt or to text editor apps

I have checked the forums for info about installing mpg licence.
None of them work.

The config.txt file is not writable from FTP, and can't be edited via SSH in Raspbmc. (Even I could do this in a full Linux setup)

Edited config.txt via Windows - rebooted Pi - fix has not taken.
Mpg movies still blank - sound plays. This via HDMI on 512MB Pi.

cat /boot/config.txt shows line added via PC is not present.

There must be a simpler way for a non-techie who just wants a media server

RE: Codec license works on Raspbian but not on Raspbmc
For editing config.txt manually (even though you're supposed to do it using "Raspbmc Settings") you need to run the command:

Code:
sudo nano /boot/config.txt

Username: pi
Password: raspberry

You will need to use the same password when trying to run this command, this technique is similar to "Run as Administrator" on Windows.

What part of licence key should I enter in raspbmc settings (i mean settings in GUI, not editing file)?

The bits after equal sign, i.e. "=".

I've used 0x... code part after "=" sign and it worked! Thank you s7mx1!

Hmm using the part after '=' doesn't work for me.

I ran this command:

pi@raspbmc:~$ vcgencmd codec_enabled MPG2
MPG2=disabled
pi@raspbmc:~$

ensure the line/code is ACTUALLY in /boot/config.txt

reboot is also required after entering
