Crystalbuntu 2.0

What are the main benefits we can expect from 2.0?

Do we need a new installer because of the new linux version or will this be realized via a normal update?

I need to do a complete reinstall because of some issues. So I wanted to ask if I should wait till 2.0.

New kernel. Supporting:

TV Adapters, new software, better performance.

New LTS base:

More package support, improved software.

Same support as current distribution.

There will be an upgrade mechanism from the current version, available at the command line.

Great work so far Sam! ...Really looking forward to Crystalbuntu 2.0 now

I know it's gonna be a big job moving over to 12.04, but my big wish-list item is definitely Dual boot
- Suspecting it'll make boot (and other stuff for those who have more than just xbmc on it) a lot faster
- Given I've now put in a decent amount of time adding new packages, it does worry me that a flash drive isn't the most resilient of storage soutions

Suspect you've got a number of ideas how to do it, but my thought on the simplest way might be...
- Shrink the existing partition on the internal ATV's disk, put a new parition in and install Crystalbuntu on it,
- OR (maybe less disruptive) I believe I've seen Linux using either a file or a portion of another OS's parition
- Then leave the default booting, etc to be atv-os, but have a bootable usb stick that's sole job is to point at Crystalbuntu. So usb stick in...boots crystalbuntu partition, take the stick out...boots atv-os
- Main reason behind thinking this is that presumably a LIRC enabled boot menu is pretty much impossible...

Some other things the upgrade to 12.04 will give should just give me out of the box
- support for my usb tv tuners
- presumably the 12.04 repos will be accessible, so I can install LXDE
- support for my webcam for skype

I can see that some people want new features like tv-tuners with pvr and whatnot. However, I don't need any of those features, so I hope new features won't come at the expense of performance and stability of the core functions (xbmc playback and library). Hoping the awesomeness will continue in 2.x

well, it seems that Ubuntu 12.04 LTS is available now.

i really hope Sam gets time for a uber-needed-release of Crystalbuntu 2.0!

I know this is an older post now, but LXDE works fine under Crystalbuntu as is. I was using it a lot myself.
