You can figure out the structure by looking at the existing file, you shouldn't have to make many new entries, just edit the existing

Ok so I'm now trying to map the fast forward button as the back button.

I have adjusted like so:

Rebooted, still doesn't work? Many thanks for your efforts in helping me, very impressed!

Try using keyboard.xml, just sub keyboard for remote in the above commands

Ok, were getting there, I just noticed that you're editing the global section, there's a full screen video section that dictates what commands do when video is running. Global commands only work when there is no commands in the other sections, the other sections take precedence. So check the full screen video section contents and try editing them. If you want to use Fastforward as back button edit remote.xml and search for <skipplus>

Thanks for this Kennz I have this exact model and thanks to your post was able to get back working as you suggested.
(Unfortunately the telly itself is proving a bit flaky which is no surprise having looked at a few posts here and elsewhere about LG and its implementation of CEC; like having no sound when you return to the main channel from simplink! So since I don't want to break the telly I think after all I will in the end just make do with the Android remote app for Rpi XBMC)

I have the LG 48LH4000 and the back/return key does not work either.
nothing is outputted when i use irw so i dont know what keys to change
Only keys that work are up,down,left right and OK

any ideas?

I'm having the same issue with my 47LD520. Red/Green/Yellow/Blue buttons.
