Raspbmc IR remote control recommendation for UK? - a8ree - 12-03-2012 09:03 PM I want to put together a couple of Raspbmc units for family as I am really impressed with my setup. I have a Hauppauge MCE remote that I bought years ago. That works well, although I tend to use the Android app 'Yatse' which is brilliant. There seems to be a couple of discussions around remotes but no clear recommendation. I looked at the wiki and it mentions the XBOX DVD remote....can I assume that it is the original Xbox remote? In that case, what adaptor is needed to make it USB? Anyone got any experience of them - good/bad? Does anyone have a recommendation for a remote that I can get in ebay UK/amazon and doesn't cost a fortune? Cheers RE: Raspbmc IR remote control recommendation for UK? - nadnerb - 12-03-2012 11:20 PM (12-03-2012 09:03 PM)a8ree Wrote: There seems to be a couple of discussions around remotes but no clear recommendation. Anyone got any experience of them - good/bad? There's plenty of talk on this forum about the xbox remote (yes, original, not 360). You solder your own adapter which basically involves changing the xbox plug to a standard USB plug. You could probably find adapters on eBay too. IMO, it's a great remote, it has all the functions you need as bear in mind, XBMC was originally built for this remote. RE: Raspbmc IR remote control recommendation for UK? - Dilligaf - 12-03-2012 11:26 PM My personal preference is an MCE RC6 remote with either a usb receiver or gpio receiver, they're well supported in all Operating systems and by programmable remotes, I use a gpio receiver to free up a usb port. I would try to stay away from the Hama/vrc-1100/chinavision line of remotes. RE: Raspbmc IR remote control recommendation for UK? - a8ree - 12-04-2012 07:37 PM Thanks for the info. I have looked at ebay and see some DVD remotes. I might try pick one up and see how the solder gets on! Anyone used one of these? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Windows-Control-Infrared-Receiver-Ultimate/dp/B003ZV3J72/ref=pd_cp_computers_0 It seems a good price... RE: Raspbmc IR remote control recommendation for UK? - AndyKnight - 12-04-2012 08:17 PM This cheapo remote works a treat, it's the same one I have and I only really bought it for the IR receiver as I have a logitech harmony one. http://www.maplin.co.uk/media-centre-ir-remote-385365 I only re-programmed one button and that is for the "Start" button to launch the context menu as the "Info" button doesn't work if you disable the mouse control (which I do but you don't have to). Pretty decent price as well. (12-04-2012 07:37 PM)a8ree Wrote: Thanks for the info. I have looked at ebay and see some DVD remotes. I might try pick one up and see how the solder gets on! Just realised that's the same remote as the maplin one I posted. Go for it as per my other reply. RE: Raspbmc IR remote control recommendation for UK? - Dilligaf - 12-04-2012 08:40 PM Those are both Hama remotes, I would NOT recommend them RE: Raspbmc IR remote control recommendation for UK? - AndyKnight - 12-04-2012 08:46 PM what's the issue with them? Mine works flawlessly! RE: Raspbmc IR remote control recommendation for UK? - monkey13 - 12-04-2012 08:58 PM CEC not an option? No sense in reinventing the wheel if you have a newer tv. Saves buying a load of remotes. RE: Raspbmc IR remote control recommendation for UK? - a8ree - 12-04-2012 10:43 PM Unfortunately the TV's aren't that new... I have spotted this adapter cable.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Xbox-controller-to-PC-USB-Port-Adapter-Cable-UK-/190556878274 will this work with the original DVD remote? RE: Raspbmc IR remote control recommendation for UK? - nadnerb - 12-05-2012 12:37 AM Yep, plug the DVD dongle into that and the other end into the Pi and it should just work out of the box with Raspbmc |
